Downloading these maps is a little crazy--each file can take from 20 minutes to several hours. I suggest that if you have the DRGS already, then download only the calibration files. Alternatively, and if you have a few days, order the files on DVD, per the catalog on this page. Email the webmaster with a text listing of your target DVDs. All archives are organized by state, so if there are overlapping maps at the border, you get the map in each state's package. Map descriptions are provided here for all maps in this site, except for city maps. City maps are a hodge podge of various graphics, from poor to quite good. The best are stitched MapQuest segments.

State maps and USGS 1:250K topographic DRGs for all 11 western states on two DVDs

USGS 1:100K topographic maps on one DVD for all 11 western states (except eastern 1 degree of Colorado)

Quads on DVD, as many squares as will fit (about 25 full 64-map 1x1 degree squares per DVD, except for California, where many Quad files are significantly larger). California, of the 11 western states covered by this site, is unique in that some quads are UTM projection, while others are Albers. The geotiff data (or perhaps the accompanying .tfw and .fgd files) are not always interpreted correctly by the Ozi automatic calibration function--it's possible that occasional maps are calibrated for UTM when they are actually Albers. If calibration errors are noticed, this is the first thing to check.
